Call for Singers – Audition

Be part of a fully staged Wagner Opera in Singapore !

Audition Call – Dates: 24th and 26th January 2016

For the first time ever, a fully-staged Richard Wagner opera, The Flying Dutchman, is being produced and presented in Singapore. Wagner’s first masterpiece famous for its dramatic arias and powerful choruses, The Flying Dutchman will captivate both audiences and performers with its story of ghosts, love, betrayal and redemption.

Selected leads (Dutchman, Senta, Daland, Erik) will sing one performance at Victoria Theatre, perform an outreach programme and cover for four performances by international leads, who are being cast in Europe. Selected leads for Mary and Steersman will sing five performances at Victoria Theatre. Leads will also benefit from understudy of the international leads and vocal coaching from our international advisors, including Ms Alessandra Althoff-Pugliese: vice-president of the Richard Wagner Verband International and a coach to leading international Wagner artistes.

Choristers will benefit from a systematic vocal training programme conducted by Chorus Master Albert Tay. All participants will havethe golden opportunity of working with Singapore’s award-winning creatives -theatre directors, Glen Goei and Chong Tze Chien, music director/conductor, Darrell Ang and interacting with the international cast.

For the role of Dutchman:
1) from Act 1, “Die Frist ist um”:
– from beginning until “Niemals der Tod!” (bar 810)
2) Any Aria from a German Romantic Opera or OratorioFor the role of Senta:
1) from Act 2, Senta’s Ballad
– from beginning (“Johohoe!”) until (… “das Heil erreichen!”) entrance of Mary 2) Any Aria from a German Romantic Opera or OratorioFor the role of Daland:
1) from Act 2, “Mögst Du, mein Kind”
– from beginning until “Sie zieret, sie zieret ihr Geschlecht!” 2) Any Aria from a German Romantic Opera or OratorioFor the role of Erik:
1) from Act 3, Cavatina “Willst jenes Tag’s”
2) Any Aria from a German Romantic Opera or OratorioFor the role of Steersman:
1) from Act 1, “Mit Gewitter und Sturm”

For the role of Mary:

Audition for Chorus

Date : Tuesday, 26 January 2016 Time : 10am-1pm, 2-5pm

What you will need to prepare for the audition :

  • One operatic aria (must be in German)
  • One Lied or Oratorio Excerpt from the Romantic Period.

Other points to note :

  1. Accompanist: Applicants who wish to use the services of our resident pianist must send their scores in advance.
  2. Overseas Singaporean applicants should send a video clip of operatic repertoire, either by email or by referral to a youtube link.
  3. All applicants should send a CV outlining their singing experience to date.
  4. Weekly rehearsals for Chorus will begin in late April2016.
