Since January 2011, Ukrainian baritone Oleksandr Pushniak has been performing as an ensemble member of the Staatstheater Braunschweig (Germany). He sings a wide variety of opera roles, including those of Carlo Gerard (Andrea Chenier, Giordano), Renato (Un Ballo in Maschera, Verdi), Miller (Luisa Miller, Verdi), Don Carlo (Ernani, Verdi), Amonasro (Aida, Verdi), Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde, Wagner), Amfortas (Parsifal, Wagner), Tomsky (Pique Dame, Tchaikovsky), and Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart).
In 2012, Oleksandr won First Prize and was Audience Favourite at the International Singing Competition for Wagner Voices in Germany. In 2013, he was invited to sing the role of Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold as his debut at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. In 2015, he reprised the role in concert performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, thereby making his CD recording debut in Das Rheingold for the Naxos label.
During the 2010 season, Oleksandr enjoyed success in the role of Simone (Gianni Schicchi, Puccini) at the Castleton Summer Festival (USA), conducted by Maestro Lorin Maazel. During the same season, he was finalist in the International Vocal Competition held in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
From 2008 to 2010, Oleksandr sang as a member of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists Program in Washington, D.C. where he honed his professional skills while performing with the Washington National Opera in such roles as Dottore Grenvil (La Traviata, Verdi), Petrucci (Lucrezia Borgia, Donizetti), Mandarin (Turandot, Puccini), Fiorello (The Barber of Seville, Rossini), Antonio (The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart). While in Washington, Oleksandr performed the role of Conte Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart) and the lead role of Falstaff (Falstaff, Verdi), under the auspices of the Young Artists Program, as well as giving many concert performances, among which were ones conducted by Placido Domingo.
In 2007, Oleksandr was semi-finalist in the Domingo ‘Operalia’ Vocal Competition in Paris, and around the same time he was Prize Winner of the ‘European Song Contest’ held at the Styriarte Music Festival in Austria.
Oleksandr began his professional career as a singer and actor in 2005, performing in a variety of concert halls in his native Ukraine, among which where the National Philharmonic of Ukraine and the Dnipropetrovsk Philharmonic.
