The singing competition was held over the first weekend of October in glorious Autumn sunshine in the city of Karlsruhe, coinciding with the celebrations of 25 years of German re-unification. A large group of Wagner Society members gathered to watch the events over three days, growing in size as the weekend progressed. Two rounds of auditions hosted by Aureus Music Academy, Rochester Park, on 26 and 30 January and 19 March unleashed a wealth of local talent for The Flying Dutchman Chorus. Over 20 singers were recruited for the chorus from among 28 hopefuls who participated in the auditions.
